The casino sits just off the hotel lobby at 118 Albert Street, a few minutes' walk from the Viaduct. It is a compact, comfortable room rather than a barn — a bank of slot machines along one wall, live tables through the middle, a bar at the back and a small stage that gets used for live music midweek. Entry is free, whether you are staying with us or simply calling in for the evening.
The gaming floor carries slot machines from 5c denominations up, and live table games including blackjack, roulette, poker and baccarat. Table minimums start low early in the evening and rise as the room fills, so the quiet hour after opening is the easiest time to sit down. Dealers are used to first-timers — ask at the desk on your way in and someone will walk you through a game before you play.
The casino is open from 6pm until late, seven days a week. The casino bar serves until close and there is a short supper menu until 11pm, so you can eat without leaving the floor. Live music plays on the small stage on Thursday and Friday evenings. Dress is smart casual — no high-visibility work wear, no sports gear and no gang insignia.
Entry is restricted to people aged 20 and over. Photo ID is checked at the door in line with the Gambling Act 2003 — a New Zealand driver licence, a passport or a Kiwi Access card. Entry is free for hotel guests and visitors alike, and there is no membership requirement. The casino is a licensed venue: alcohol is not served to anyone who is intoxicated, and staff may decline entry at their discretion.
All gaming at Totara Grand takes place on-site, on our own floor. We do not run an online casino and no gambling of any kind is offered through this website. Our staff are trained to recognise the signs of harmful gambling and to approach guests discreetly; break periods and self-exclusion are available on request at the desk, clocks are visible from every part of the floor, water is free, and there are no ATMs or cash-out facilities in the gaming room. If gambling is causing problems for you or someone you know, the free and confidential Gambling Helpline is on 0800 654 655, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or visit choicenotchance.org.nz.
